School is stressing me out. I am in danger of failing 4 out of 5 of my classes. I feel completely unmotivated and extremely overwhelmed. It is so serious that I have thought of dropping out. I am on the pre-law career track, but I do not want to be a lawyer. Both of my parents are lawyers so they expect me to do the same. However, I do not even know what I would want to do instead. I am scared I am going to be coasting through college without any direction or actual destination. I know you cannot tell me what to do with my life, but a little guidance would be great
You’re right, I can’t tell you what to do with your life. But I will tell you not to drop out. The point of college is to figure out what you want to do with your life. I know so many people who start off as one major and end up doing something completely different. And the best thing about college is that it is not just about academia, but it also about gaining experience. Find something you’re passionate about and build off that. Join a club or organization. Check out Career Services, the advisors can help you out with potential internships. Set up an appointment with your academic advisor. You have options! It is important to make something out of your college career. Make a list of possible career paths and start from there. Now you know for sure that you don’t want to be a lawyer, now you can cross that off! Don’t be discouraged, you have time to figure it out.
